13 Cat Paintings, Friday the 13th & Other Lucky Numbers

Christine Montague, known for her figurative landscape and portraiture oil paintings,  has a lot on the go outside her stone building studio, too. Accepted as one of the 24 artists for the Salmon Run Project, she recently appeared as a guest on Rogers TV's "daytime" along with Rob Freeman, Curator of the Art Gallery of Mississauga. Search "Salmon Run" on Christine's blog Camera and Canvas to read about the process and to see the finished project.

Christine is also up for the 2011 MARTY emerging artist award, a Mississauga Arts Council annual award. This year, competition is vigorous with 17 other visual artists vying for this award, so wish Christine luck this coming Friday the 13th!

Speaking of luck, no black cats here! There is, however,  a cloudier of thirteen cats  of various other hues,  heading for the window of Dragonfly Arts on Broadway in Orangeville, Ontario.  "What the Cat Saw" is a collection of Christine's oil paintings that feature or include an image of a cat. From petite to larger than life images celebrating our feline friends. This exhibit starts May 11 and runs until May 23rd at Dragonfly. Dragonfly Gallery and the Williams Mill Visual Arts Centre are  part of the Art a la Car collective of art venues.  Curious as to  "What the Cat Saw"? Visit the show to find out!

That means it’s critical to have a professional looking portfolio to present during your interview with the faculty.Accomplished mixed-media/pastel artist Sheri Tenaglia is offering art classes in her Williams Mill studio for the purpose of portfolio building. Her program is designed

Williams Mill Artist Kudos and Congratulations

The artists at the Williams Mill are not part of a co-operative, but they still work together to get things done!  The Mill Artists Group, known as MAG, has a new chair person for 2011 – award-winning book illustrator Karen Reczuch. (To see Karen's amazing list of books , click here). Sculptor Gabrielle Fischer Horvath is the new vice-chair, and painter Gord Stuart , glass blower Julia Hillyer, and wood carver Bryan Turner have generously volunteered to serve as building reps. Kudos to them all!

Congratulations are due to watercolour artist Gord Stuart. His watercolour painting “Winter Magic “ is  this year’s image on the City of Brampton Christmas Card. Beautifully framed, this full sheet watercolor painting, (which was also juried into the 2010 John Sommer’s Annual Juried Show) is now for sale in his Williams Mill studio.

Congratulations to Mary Ellen Farrow for her sculpture prize at the latest Colour and Form Society: 58th Annual Open Juried Show. Mary Ellen's beautifully executed sculptures always bring a smile to our faces. We at "The Mill" were already in "the know"- All Mary Ellen's stone sculpture are prize worthy! The CFS show is on until Nov. 26, 2010. Etobicoke Civic Centre Art Gallery. 

Congratulations to Christine Montague. Her representational oil painting “Down the Lighthouse Stairs” was accepted into "Where They Are Now!" the OCADU Alumni Juried Show – an exciting initiative that invited all 12 disciplines of OCAD University to submit art work. Jurors were Melissa Bennett, Curator of Contemporary Art, Art Gallery of Hamilton, Maggie Broda, President of OCAD Alumni Association, & William Huffman, Associate Director of Toronto Arts Council. Nov. 10 - 28th. Opening Nov. 12.  Art Square Gallery, (Across from AGO) Toronto, Ontario.

Prestigious CSPWC Honours Painter Marlene Madole

Peter Marsh CSPWC President announced Williams Mill artist, Marlene Madole CSPWC as recipient of the President’s Award for her outstanding efforts as Chair of the Canadian Society of Painters in Water Colour (CSPWC) International Juried 84^th Annual Exhibition ‘Open Water’ in Calgary, and her continued support and attention to detail as an advisor over a very busy year. She traveled across the country for the society at her own expense to support activities from Calgary to the CSPWC Symposium in Cape Breton when Peter was unable to travel and supported Katherine Zarull in her transition to CSPWC First Vice-President. The award was presented at the CSPWC AGM 2010 at the Arts & Letters Club of Toronto.

Marlene's studio & gallery is located in the Williams Mill Courtyard.
