Second Saturday this weekend August 14, 210

A trip to the Williams Mill will definitely be in order this weekend if you are thinking of adding to your art collection. Several more artists will be participating in this "Second Saturday Event". Investing in an original work of art is an experience you can be proud of. The artists of the Williams Mill are creating special works just for the Second Saturday Event and you can be sure that even the artists will be looking in on their neighbors to see what unique piece will be available that day.
Second Saturday is meant to promote the purchasing of original art and we hope to do that by offering one special piece at a very reasonable price. Most original works can run into the hundreds or thousands of dollars but one Saturday each month is now your opportunity to acquire art for much, much less.
Studios open at 12 so don't be late or someone might beat to you that perfect piece.

Second Saturdays in more studios in August

July's Second Saturday event was once a again held in the lower studios of Carmen Hickson and Christine Montague. Carmen offered a figurative piece in browns and gold foil while Christine's special work featured a young boy frolicking on the beach (the oil paint was still wet, that's how new the work was).
Next month expect to see more studios participating in Second Saturdays including Marg Peter, Joe Walterson, Mike Young, and Christine Ford.
Make a note to come out to the Mill to see what treasures you can find.

Annual Eyeful Salon Show in the Gallery

A feast for the eyes awaits visitors of the Williams Mill Gallery this summer as we present Eyeful IV from June 30 - Sept. 6, 2010. This Parisian style salon show is always a huge success and should not be missed.

The 1st "Second Saturday" event

Christine Montague and Carmen Hickson stand by their work offered at the 1st ever "Second Saturday" event in their studio at the Williams Mill. The next "Second Saturday" event takes place July 10th, 2010. A new work by each artist will be offered at a very affordable price but for one day only.
This event is meant to introduce the luxury and thrill of collecting original art to the novice collector. You never know what might be offered, perhaps one of Christine's great cat paintings or a whimsical rabbit by Carmen. The only way to find out will be to attend "Second Saturday" on July 10th.
See you there!

The old saying, ‘There’s an elephant in the living room’, doesn’t quite apply for Williams Mill artist Gabrielle Fischer Horvath, since no one can ignore the newly-assembled bronze cast elephant she recently created. The work, cast at Artcast in Georgetown, was created by plaster bandage casting a live elephant, then going through an elaborate process to cast it in bronze. The work has been set in its temporary display location outside the Gallery in Glen Williams, but it is expected to be mounted on the wall of the yellow building at Williams Mill within the next few weeks.

Pictures above show Gabrielle signing her work after completion.
Sheba is then being lifted by boom truck onto a platform ready to go to the Mill - weighing in at almost 900 lb. She now sits in her temporary home greeting visitors to the Mill.
